Deciding to Begin

Why is it so difficult to live the life you want?  Why is there such a disconnect between the possibilities and the reality?

Many of us are bombarded by motivational posts on Facebook and Instagram preaching to live every moment to the fullest.  Find your passion.  Be the change you want to see in the world.  Dance like no one is watching.  YOLO.  Okay, enough already. We get it.

So, what gives?  What makes it so hard to just… begin?  What is holding us back?  It’s a huge question for me, and one that inspired me to start this project.

Perhaps the answer is just to stop thinking and do something.  Even if you don’t have a destination in mind, just do something.  Maybe you are too focused on figuring out exactly what you want.  You need to be sure you’re making the right decision before taking a single step.  However, in the long and daunting process of curating your ideal future, you are accomplishing nothing.  You’re standing still.

I recently realized that I have been standing still for a long time.  Paralyzed by the thought of making the wrong choice or missing an opportunity.  Agonizing over what I should have already done and what I could do next.

That realization led me to start making some changes and taking small steps toward self improvement.  There is not a clear path and I have no freaking idea where I’m going, but who cares!  Why not slowly build momentum and work on the tiny details until a bigger picture comes into focus?

With this in mind, I’ll be sharing my progress and setbacks with you here.  This is a small step for me, albeit a challenging one, and who knows what it could turn into. I hope that you’ll join me for the ride and maybe we can learn something from each other along the way.

  1. Just found your blog and wish you much success!

Sometimes I’ll wonder if I have a purpose or am I just filler on this journey called life.

Channeling wisdom from the TV (or is it Pinterest?) I’ll ask myself..if not now, when?

And when that doesn’t work …just do it!

    Happy trails!

    1. Thank you! I could have written your comment myself, I totally feel that way too. It’s so easy to be motivated but hard to actually DO something about it.

Let’s both go do something that makes us smile today, ok? 🙂
